Plan before you negotiate

Some planning tips
1)What do I want
2)What do they want?
3)What will/can I trade ?
4)Explore all the available options of the trade
5)Explore long and short term implications of each option for all parties involved
6)Set Objectives in terms of acceptable limits and that you have a realistic chance of achieving
7)Visualize possible gains, not losses
8)Be aware that the opposition might have a hidden agenda
9)Identify your supporting arguments that justify your objectives
10)What strengths and weaknesses do you take
11)What will be your opening gambit and how will you present it
12)How much time is there to negotiate (Time scale)
13)What will be your opening position, your fall back position and your final fall back position beyond which you will refuse to do business.
